Deaf Family Life

Ahhh the joys of being Deaf.

No crazy traffic noises.

No worries about screaming kids.

Smoke alarm batteries needs changing- oh well!

3 little monkeys
Katie (age 2 signing "Wake Up!")

Ok. So being Deaf has its pros and cons.

On one hand, it's easy to block out annoying things people say, angry people, etc. But on the other hand, being lost in a group, unable to hear in hearing meetings, and misunderstood by hearing population EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. has... well... it's downside. From time to time I will come here and talk about the struggles and joys of being a Deaf family. One- because some of you are Deaf/HH and you KNOW what I'm talking about. And two- some of you are hearing and have no clue what I'm talking about but need to be aware. Deaf life is a joy, a curse, and an adventure. I hope you join us in ours!

  1. I have a friend who is deaf and she wants to homeschool her children. I am learning sign, but I'm not good enough to help her understand the process and I have no one to help her. I pray that God will make a way for her. If you can send me some info for her I would appreciate it. We live in Langhorne, Pa. Thank you and and blessings to you too

    1. Greetings Michelle! If you're friend is on Facebook at all have her friend me- Erin More O'Donnell. There is a Deaf Moms Homeschool Facebook group as well that is a fabulous starting point. If she does not Facebook tell her to email me at deafinitestyle@gmail.com (it's my business email but I'll get it within a day). I'd be thrilled to walk her through the process :)

  3. I was looking for the scholarly source regarding the tiredness in Deaf children. I came across this blog. I'm Deaf, and homeschooling my youngest daughter. I deactivated my Facebook account temporarily to concentrate on finishing my Master's degree. I might activate my Facebook account again after this semester is over. I would like to check out Deaf Moms Homeschool Facebook group if it is still in effect. Thanks!
